    ==General==
    Shiftry is a powerful offensive threat. Its decent 100/90 offenses can be boosted to dangerous levels either Swords Dance or Nasty Plot, with workable base 80 speed than can be doubled by Chlorophyll in sun. Its Grass/Dark typing also gives it STAB Sucker Punch, a free immunity, and the ability to smash Quagsire with a STAB move. When it all adds up, Shiftry's power becomes terrifying. However, Shiftry has its limits; its low 90/60/60 defenses are a huge letdown; combine this with six weaknesses, five of them key weaknesses in Fire, Flying, Fighting, Bug, and Ice, and Shiftry can be easy to wear down. As a result, one might overlook Shiftry in place of [[Victreebel]] or [[Sawsbuck]], who both have speed and power, or [[Exeggutor]], who has good mixed offenses and physical bulk. Despite these flaws, do not underestimate him, for he can blow the foundations of your team to the ground.

    ==Swords Dance==
    {{set

    |item2=Lum Berry
    |ability=Chlorophyll

    |nature2=Jolly

    |ev2=80HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spd
    |move1=Swords Dance
    |move2=Seed Bomb
    |move3=Sucker Punch
    |move4=Nature Power}}

    Shiftry can be very dangerous with a Swords Dance set. Swords Dance doubles Shiftry's attack to a decent level. Seed Bomb is STAB to muscle past Rock types, whereas Sucker Punch is priority STAB.Nature Power, which is Earthquake in Wi-fi battles, gives Shiftry good coverage. Chlorophyll is the preferred ability for Shiftry to get a speed boost in sun. Early Bird seems tempting, but Shiftry's 90/60/60 defenses do not complement Early Bird too well.
    Jolly Nature could be used. However, Shiftry already has Sucker Punch and Chlorophyll, which is enough. Shiftry also prefers the additional power. However, if Jolly Nature is chosen, a spread of 80 HP/252 Atk/176 Speed can be used to give Shiftry a little more bulk, while still outspeeding every Choice Scarf user in the metagame. In terms of items, Life Orb allows Shiftry to turn certain 3HKOs into 2HKOs, 2HKOs into OHKOs, especially with Stealth Rock up. However, Lum Berry can be used to give Shiftry one free shield of status, especially against [[Misdreavus]] or Effect Spore [[Vileplume]], while not giving any recoil; however, the power drop can be noticeable.

    Some calcs to demonstrate power:
    *+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Shiftry Seed Bomb vs. 128 HP / 4 Def Armaldo: 309-367 (95.66 - 113.62%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
    *+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Shiftry Seed Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Gurdurr: 238-281 (63.63 - 75.13%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
    *+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Shiftry Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Gurdurr: 119-140 (31.81 - 37.43%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock <!--Sucker Punch allows Shiftry to break through Gurdurr before Gurdurr can even scratch it.-->

    ===Synergy===
    This Shiftry can be used outside of sun, but it functions best in sun due to Chlorophyll. Fire types like [[Charizard]] and [[Houndoom]] are great for removing grass types, whereas [[Armaldo]] has Sunny Day + Stealth Rock, and even Rapid Spin to boost Shiftry's longetivity. Regirock trades Rapid Spin for a neutrality to Stealth Rock, and a much higher base defense. [[Garbodor]] can use Sunny Day, and can use Spikes to wear down Grass types like [[Tangela]] and [[Leafeon]]. Garbodor also resists Fighting and Bug types for Shiftry. [[Altaria]] can absorb status for Shiftry, and can lay down sun. [[Lampent]] has decent synergy with Shiftry, holding a 4x resistance to Bug-type moves, while holding immunities to Fire and Fighting type moves. It also appreciates the sun with its Fire STAB, while Shiftry resists Water, Ghost, Dark, and Ground type moves for Lampent. [[Frillish]] has similar resistances, while Shiftry resists Grass and Electric type attacks for it, but it cannot learn Sunny Day. It also cannot abuse the sun in any way.

    ==Nasty Plot==
    {{set
    |name=Nasty Plot
    |pkmn=Shiftry
    |item=Life Orb
    |ability=Chlorophyll
    |nature=Timid
    |ev2=80HP / 252 SpAtk / 176 Spd
    |move1=Nasty Plot
    |move2=Giga Drain|move21=Solarbeam
    |move3=Dark Pulse
    |move4=Hidden Power Fire|move41=Focus Blast}}

    Shiftry can also run a Nasty Plot set off its base 90 Sp Atk. With +2 and Life Orb with entry hazard support, Shiftry can demolish teams. Since Giga Drain is STAB, it can deal a lot of damage. On the other hand, Solarbeam is much stronger, but does not heal off recoil. Dark Pulse is a secondary STAB that hits grass and poison types that resist Giga Drain, like [[Weezing]]. Hidden Power Fire allows Shiftry to hit Steels super effectively, while pummeling Bug and Grass types to the ground, especially Leavanny, who has Chlorophyll and higher base speed. On the other hand, Focus Blast can be used if Houndoom is a bigger problem to the team. It also hammers Lickilicky and Bastiodon, and forms the Dark + Fighting coverage.

    Just to demonstrate this power:

    *+2 252 SpA Life Orb Shiftry Hidden Power Fighting vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Lickilicky: 231-273 (54.48 - 64.38%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
    *+2 252 SpA Life Orb Shiftry Hidden Power Fighting vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Murkrow: 199-235 (61.6 - 72.75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
    *+2 252 SpA Life Orb Shiftry Hidden Power Fighting vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Regice: 169-200 (46.55 - 55.09%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

    ===Synergy===
    Shiftry definitely wants sun setters for this set due to the lack of Sucker Punch. Regirock can use Sunny Day +Stealth Rock, and Armaldo that combination with Rapid Spin. Charizard and Houndoom are once again good partners, as well as [[Rapidash]] to have a physical attacker. Volbeat can pass a +3 Tail Glow to Shiftry to make it even more terrifying, while laying down sun. Lampent has decent synergy with Shiftry, holding a 4x resistance to Bug-type moves, while holding immunities to Fire and Fighting type moves, and abusing the sun with its Fire STAB. As mentioned before, Shiftry also resists Ghost, Dark, Ground, Water type moves for Lampent. Frillish has similar resistances, while Shiftry resists Grass and Electric-type attacks for it, but it cannot learn Sunny Day. It also cannot abuse the sun in any way.

    ==Suicide Sun==
    {{set
    |name=Suicide Sun
    |pkmn=Shiftry
    |item=Heat Rock|item1=Life Orb
    |ability=Chlorophyll
    |nature=Mild
    |ev2=40Atk / 252 SpAtk / 216 Spd
    |move1=Sunny Day
    |move2=Leaf Storm
    |move3=Sucker Punch
    |move4=Explosion|move41=Hidden Power Fire}}

    Whereas the other Shiftry sets are meant to sweep, this set aims to lay down sun, while taking down at least one of the opponent's pokemon before going down. Sunny Day is a no-brainer here; without it, there is no point behind the set. Leaf Storm hits absurdly hard with STAB, and will put a hole in at least one pokemon. Sucker Punch is a priority move and STAB. The next move is based on preference: despite the nerf in mechanics in Gen 5, Explosion is still powerful and effective at bringing in a sun sweeper, especially with a Life Orb, whereas Hidden Power Fire, boosted by sun, will hammer bulky grass and poison types, like Tangela and Weezing. This Shiftry set can hammer many Stealth Rock users, like [[Golem]], [[Regirock]], and [[Seismitoad]].

    Mild Nature is used to boost the power of Leaf Storm, while not touching Sucker Punch and Explosion. Chlorophyll doubles speed in sun. With sun, Solarbeam can be used instead to avoid the -2 from Leaf Storm, but this set is meant to be suicidal, so it should hardly matter. The item is based off preference; Heat Rock gives 3 additional turns of sunlight, whereas Life Orb gives additional power.

    ===Synergy===
    This Shiftry is aimed to be a suicidal sun setter for offensive teams; thus, fellow Chlorophyll users, like Victreebel and Sawsbuck, would enjoy Shiftry's wrath. Fire types like Charizard, Lampent, and Houndoom once again are still good for sun. Fellow sun setters like Regirock, Armaldo, and Volbeat/Illumise help ensure that sun stays up, some of them capable of using other Support moves like Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, and Baton Pass. If you plan to use this Shiftry on a non-sun oriented team, do not bother.

    ==Mixtry==
    {{set
    |name=Mixtry
    |pkmn=Shiftry
    |item=Life Orb
    |item2=Lum Berry
    |ability=Chlorophyll
    |nature=Naive
    |ev=176 Atk / 156 SpAtk / 176 Spd
    |move1=Growth|move11=Solarbeam
    |move2=Giga Drain|move21=Solarbream
    |move3=Sucker Punch
    |move4=Focus Blast|move41=Hidden Power Fire}}

    This set is the hardest to set up with due to the lowest bulk, tied with Suicide Sun, but it can reap results. This set allows Shiftry to use both Giga Drain and Sucker Punch effectively on the same set. Growth doubles both offenses, which is incredibly brutal. Alternatively, if it is too difficult to set up Growth, Solarbeam can be used instead for an instant rage of power. Naive Nature with 176 Speed allows Shiftry to outspeed every Scarf pokemon in the tier. Giga Drain is the preferred Grass STAB to heal off recoil. The next move is based on choice: Focus Blast allows Shiftry to nail Lickilicky and everything that resists Sucker Punch, whereas Hidden Power hits Leafeon, Tangela, and Weezing. Finally, Sucker Punch is a priority STAB move to hit priority users like Sneasel and Dragonair.

    ===Synergy===
    This Shiftry is pretty much a late-game sweeper all over, as finding opportunities to set up is difficult. [[Liepard]] and [[Volbeat]] are the best in giving opportunities, as they can set up sun, and use appropriate moves needed (Parafusion + U-Turn, Encore + SubPass) to bring Shiftry into the match in a mostly stable state. A bulkier Chlorophyll user, like Sawsbuck or Vileplume, can be of use as a partner. Fire types once again become handy to make of use of sun, whether it be Charizard, Lampent, or Houndoom. Stealth Rock + Sunny Day users like Armaldo and Regirock come of use, and Altaria and [[Musharna]] can wear down some of Shiftry's checks with their sheer bulk and power. [[Audino]] has Sunny Day and Healing Wish, which can allow Shiftry to come in somewhat safely.

    ==Other Options==
    Shiftry has a large movepool with several options. HP Fighting is an okay alternative to Focus Blast if the accuracy turns you off. Bullet Seed's base power varies, but it allows Shiftry to break past Substitutes. Seed Bomb is still more consistent. And for stuff you should never be using. Low Kick can replace Nature Power to hit through Air Balloons, especially against Probopass', but it is too inconsistent; .
    Shiftry can use a bulky Sun set with Sunny Day + Synthesis, but it is too fragile, and it prefers additional coverage. Shiftry can run a Choice Band set, but Sawsbuck does that better due to STAB Horn Leech, and the option to use Sap Sipper instead of Chlorophyll to boost his power even more. Choice Specs is better left to Exeggutor, who has more Sp Atk and physical bulk. Despite Shiftry's sweeping sets having terrifying power, he lacks the power needed for a Choice Scarf set.

    ==Checks and Counters==
    Bulky grass types, like Tangela and Leafeon, can cause Swords Dance Shiftry some troubles. Weezing is in a similar boat due to its immunity to Nature Power (Earthquake). Gurdurr's Mach Punch does heavy damage to Shiftry, but it cannot switch in after Shiftry gets to +2, as the combination of Stealth Rock, +2 Seed Bomb, and +2 Sucker Punch can actually kill Gurdurr before it can even land a Mach Punch. Faster priority users, like [[Linoone]] and [[Sneasel]], can wear Shiftry down, but cannot switch into him, as his attacks can deal massive damage. [[Hariyama]] with Fake Out/Bullet Punch and Sturdy [[Sawk]] can cause some problems; however, Sawk can succumb to entry hazard damage.

    Once Nasty Plot Shiftry gets to +2, your best bet is to just run a revenge killer. In sun, that can be difficult, as nothing can switch in without a 2HKO with Stealth Rock support, not even Regice. Choice Band Sneasel and any Piloswine will do considerable amounts of damage with their STAB Ice Shards, whereas Gurdurr can do heavy damage with Mach Punch. Special walls seem tempting as a counter, but none of them can be 3HKOed after a +2 Shiftry with Stealth Rock hits them. Again, Hariyama with Fake Out/Bullet Punch and Sturdy Sawk can cause some problems but Sawk can lose his Sturdy from hazard damage.

    Hi. Good Job with Shiftry! I see you know it quite well.

    First, please post a picture of Shiftry, it gives readers a good insight about the Pokemon. :3

    Swords Dance set:
    Lum Berry deserves a mention, especially when Shiftry is against Misdreavus or Effect Spore Vileplume.

    Swords Dance set Calculations:
    Braviary is not NU, so please remove it on the list.

    Nasty Plot set:
    I'd give SolarBeam a slash next to Nasty Plot or Giga Drain since its a stronger STAB attack especially when Sun support is present. Generally, I like Focus Blast more even if it has a low accuracy because I like to overkill things it ensures KOs more. I will also slash Hidden Power Fire next to Focus Blast, it gives you the ability to hit other Grass types like Roselia and Meganium.

    Nasty Plot set Calculations:
    Miltank is not NU, so please remove it on the list

    Hey there, nice analysis. To start, you have a couple formatting issues. This link is a good example of how to properly format one. Basically, the Checks and Counters section is put after the Other Options. Calculations aren't a necessity but if implemented, are put in the individual set's description without a label. Synergies can also be mentioned in the individual set's description but also aren't labeled.

    For the Swords Dance set, I would slash in Jolly next to Adamant in the set. While you do mention that it has Sucker Punch and Chlorophyll to help it outspeed, the extra speed EVs will help when it isn't using Sucker Punch and Chlorophyll only comes into play when it's on a sun team.

    In Other Options, I would mention that Shiftry can set up Sunny Day by itself and attempt a sweep, but it's generally too frail. I would remove the mention of Quick Attack because there's no reason to run it over Sucker punch. I would mention that Shiftry can use either a Choice Band and Choice Specs dependingon your set. A notable move when running Specs is Leaf Storm.

    In Checks and Counters, Hariyama and Sturdy Sawk should be mentioned. With prior damage, Hariyama can deal a lot of damage with a combination of Fake Out + Bullet Punch. Without hazards, the latter can live anything Shiftry has to offer and KO back with its STAB.

    Otherwise, looks good.

    Both Hariyama and Blastoise's analyses are older. I would stick to following the format of the analyses in this particular subforum. The Carracosta is one of the most recent and shows how they are formatted now.

    I am going to try Mixed Shiftry (Growth) to see if it is any good to move out of Other Options.

    Very nice first analysis!

    In the Nasty Plot set, Shiftry with a Ev distribution of 82 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe (positive speed nature) outspeeds every common scarf user after a Chlorophyll boost (Manectric, Tauros, etc), while maximizing the remaining Ev's in its bulk. Of course you can also use the same Ev distribution in the Swords Dance set, but since Shiftry has access to Sucker Punch to dent those frail scarfers, a Adamant nature is prefered in most cases.

    No Sunny Day Suicide set?

    Something like this should work, as it's pretty unique to Shiftry:

    Shiftry @ Heat Rock / Life Orb
    Ability: Chlorophyll
    EVs: 40 Atk / 252 SAtk / 216 Spd
    Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def)

    -Sunny Day
    -Leaf Storm
    -Sucker Punch
    -Explosion / Hidden Power Fire

    Sets up its own sun, and goes boom when it's killed as much as possible. That won't take long, as this set isn't meant to last long. Worth a mention?

    EDIT: Oh, and in your synergy section, I'd definitely give Frillish and Lampent mentions. While they're both far from common, they also both have brilliant type synergy with Shiftry, resisting literally every move that Shiftry is weak to, while Shiftry resists Ghost, Dark, Ground (for Lampent), Electric and Grass (for Frillish). Lampent can even abuse the sun as well.

    {{Comments|Whereas the other Shiftry sets are meant to sweep, this set aims to lay down sun, while taking down at least one of the opponent's pokemon before going down. This Shiftry set can hammer many Stealth Rock users, like Golem, Regirock, and Seismitoad.

    Mild Nature is used to boost the power of Leaf Storm, while not touching Sucker Punch and Explosion. Chlorophyll doubles speed in sun. With sun, Solarbeam can be used instead to avoid the -2 from Leaf Storm, but this set is meant to be suicidal, so it should hardly matter. The item is based off preference; Heat Rock gives 3 additional turns of sunlight, whereas Life Orb gives additional power.}}

    {{Synergy|This Shiftry is aimed to be a suicidal sun setter for offensive teams; thus, fellow Chlorophyll users, like Victreebel and Sawsbuck, would enjoy Shiftry's wrath. Fire types like Charizard, Lampent, and Houndoom once again are still good for sun. Fellow sun setters like Regirock, Armaldo, and Volbeat/Illumise help ensure that sun stays up, some of them capable of using other Support moves like Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin, and Baton Pass. Using this Shiftry on a non-sun oriented team isn't recommended.}}

    EVs: 176 Atk / 156 SAtk / 176 Spd
    Naive nature (+Spd, -Def)
    - Growth / SolarBeam
    - Giga Drain / SolarBeam
    - Sucker Punch
    - Focus Blast/ Hidden Power Fire}}

    {{Comments|This set is the hardest to set up with due to the lowest bulk, tied with Suicide Sun, but it can reap results. This set allows Shiftry to use both Giga Drain and Sucker Punch effectively on the same set. Growth doubles both offenses, which equates to brutal power in the right circumstances. Alternatively, if it is too difficult to set up Growth, Solarbeam can be used instead for an instant burst of power. A Naive Nature with 176 Speed allows Shiftry to outspeed every Scarf pokemon in the tier when the sun is shining. Giga Drain is the preferred Grass STAB to heal off recoil. The next move is based on choice: Focus Blast allows Shiftry to hit Lickilicky and everything that resists Sucker Punch, whereas Hidden Power Fire hits Leafeon, Tangela, and Weezing. Finally, Sucker Punch is a priority STAB move to hit priority users like Sneasel and Dragonair.}}

    {{Synergy|This Shiftry is pretty much a late-game sweeper all over, as finding opportunities to set up is difficult. Volbeat is one of the best in giving opportunities, as it can set up sun, and use appropriate moves needed (i.e. Encore + SubPass) to bring Shiftry into the match in a mostly stable state. A bulkier Chlorophyll user, like Sawsbuck or Vileplume, can be of use as a partner. Fire types once again become handy to make of use of sun, whether it be Charizard, Lampent, or Houndoom. Stealth Rock + Sunny Day users like Armaldo and Regirock come of use, and Altaria and Musharna can wear down some of Shiftry's checks with their sheer bulk and power. Audino has Sunny Day and Healing Wish, which can allow Shiftry to come in somewhat safely.}}

    {{Options|Shiftry has a large movepool with several options. Hidden Power Fighting is an okay alternative to Focus Blast if the accuracy turns you off. Bullet Seed's base power varies, but it allows Shiftry to break past Substitutes. Seed Bomb is still more consistent.

    Low Kick can replace Nature Power to hit through Air Balloons, especially against Probopass', but it is too inconsistent; Shiftry can use a bulky Sun set with Sunny Day + Synthesis, but it is too fragile, and it prefers additional coverage. Shiftry can run a Choice Band set, but Sawsbuck does that better due to STAB Horn Leech, and the option to use Sap Sipper instead of Chlorophyll to boost his power even more. Choice Specs is better left to Exeggutor, who has more Sp Atk and physical bulk. Despite Shiftry's sweeping sets having terrifying sweeping potential, it lacks the raw power needed for a Choice Scarf set.}}

    {{Checks|Bulky grass types, like Tangela and Leafeon, can cause Swords Dance Shiftry some troubles. Faster priority users, like Linoone and Sneasel, can wear Shiftry down, but cannot switch into Shiftry, as its attacks can deal heavy damage. Hariyama with Fake Out/Bullet Punch and Sturdy Sawk can cause some problems; however, Sawk can succumb to entry hazard damage.

    Once Nasty Plot Shiftry gets to +2, your best bet is to just run a revenge killer. In sun, that can be difficult, as almost nothing can avoid a 2HKO with Stealth Rock support, not even Regice. Choice Band Sneasel and any Piloswine will do considerable amounts of damage with their STAB Ice Shards, whereas Gurdurr can do heavy damage with Mach Punch. Special walls seem tempting as a counter, but Shiftry simple deals too much damage to most of them to consider them counters. Again, Hariyama with Fake Out/Bullet Punch and Sturdy Sawk can cause some problems but Sawk can lose his Sturdy from hazard damage.}}
