On Wiki Hey guys and girls! Finally managed to do this analysis, hopefully I can do many more over the upcoming weeks due to Summerbreak (7-week holidays)! ==General== *Possesses above average stats across the board. *Has a unique typing in Water / Dragon leaving only one (1) weakness. *Has a nice Rain Dance + Swift Swim niche and can become very deadly. *Has a boosting move in Dragon Dance that helps it clean teams. *Can go Physical or Special depending on the set. *Gets a quite shallow movepool but is good enough. *Has a tight Base 85 Speed which, while above-average, isn't too fast unboosted. *One of the best set-up Pokemon in Wifi UU. ==Dragon Dance== Kingdra @ Lum Berry / Leftovers Trait: Swift Swim / Sniper EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) / Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def) - Substitute / Rain Dance / Draco Meteor - Dragon Dance - Outrage - Waterfall *Can set-up on opposing Fire-types and Ground-types. *EVs are used for as much power as possible while maintaining a high speed stat, Adamant Nature is preferred as Kingdra's speed is also being raised here and Jolly misses out on some notable KO's. 4 SDef EVs make sure Porygon2 and Porygon-Z don't get their preferred Download boost. *Substitute allows it to set-up Dragon Dance safely, and it can be used when the opponent switches out. However, Rain Dance could be used for a quick speed increase (and Waterfall increase) or Draco Meteor to counter those physical walls. If using Draco Meteor, change to a Lonely Nature. *Dragon Dance is the crux of this set, and it's why this set is so successful. *Outrage is a strong STAB and dents anything that doesn't resist it and works well with Dragon Dance and Lum Berry (so it doesn't become confused). *Waterfall is another good STAB which allows Kingdra to take on Steel, Rock, Fire and Ground-types safer, and it also has that benefical 20% flinch chance (which some people still don't know to this day). *Lum Berry helps Kingdra to not be confused (or even crippled) whilst it sweeps, however Leftovers can be used if Lum Berry isn't having any use. *Rain Dance Setters, like Tornadus in particular, makes a great partner because they help with these Swift Swim sets that don't have Rain Dance on it. ==Special Sweeper== Kingdra @ Life Orb Trait: Swift Swim EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Rain Dance - Hydro Pump / Surf - Draco Meteor - Dragon Pulse / Surf *Can run a Special set instead and functions well. *Rain Dance doubles Kingdra's speed and increases the damage of Hydro Pump (and Surf too!). *Hydro Pump is used for a strong STAB, but Surf can be used for more accuracy, yet the power drop is noticeable. *Draco Meteor allows Kingdra fire-off a ridiculously powerful STAB from the word "go", and it is very good for taking out those bulky Water-types that don't have any Special Defense boosts in particular. *Dragon Pulse can be used for a more reliable attack, same said with Surf and Hydro Pump. ==Choice Specs== Kingdra @ Choice Specs Trait: Swift Swim / Sniper EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) / Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Draco Meteor - Hydro Pump / Surf - Dragon Pulse - Hidden Power [Electric] *Kingdra can also utilise in a Choice Specs set, making it a very powerful wallbreaker right-off-the-bat. *Either nature can work, depending on the players personal preference and what they want Kingdra to do exactly. *Draco Meteor is a very powerful attack which works well with Choice Specs as it allows it to fire-off the move and switch out, come back in, use the move, switch out, etc. *Hydro Pump is also a strong attack which, while is weaker than Draco Meteor, doesn't half Kingdra's Special Attack every time it's used, so it can keep firing them off for turn. However, a reasonably powerful Surf can be used for more accuracy, but please note that the drop in power is noticeable. *Dragon Pulse is a reliable, strong, STAB that can be used like Surf and to make sure that Kingdra can still use a Dragon-type attack without lowering any stats. *Hidden Power [Electric] is used here because it can take out opposing Water-types (Empoleon in particular) a little bit easier than some of Kingdra's other moves and it can take down Crobat a little bit better. This is used over Hidden Power [Grass] here because this move cannot take down Crobat easier, and all-else it gets is coverage against Rock and Ground-type Pokemon, which is useless bcause Kingdra will 100% of the time carry a Water-type attack anyways. ==ChestoRest== Kingdra @ Chesto Berry Trait: Swift Swim / Sniper EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Rest - Dragon Dance - Outrage - Waterfall *An offensive and annoying-to-face ChestoRest set, as this is a unique way to help Kingdra sleep, cure status and recover HP. *Because of this, offensive EVs are used here, with an Adamant Nature for obvious reasons. *Rest is the crux of the set which helps Kingdra to set-up easy, stop Amoonguss / Tangrowth from using Spore, as well as the ability to cure status (as mentioned above). *Dragon Dance works well with Rest and allows Kingdra to set-up without too many problems (especially with Chesto Berry). *Outrage is a strong attack once again and after Kingdra is confused, it can cure that status by using Rest. *Waterfall is a nice, more reliable STAB that can take on Rock, Ground, Fire and Steel types easier. ==Other Options== *Hidden Power [Fighting] can be used over Hidden Power [Electric] for more coverage and allows Kingdra to take on Ferroseed better, however Ferroseed has low usage and mostly Hidden Power [Electric] is the better option here. *Ice Beam on Special Sets can be used to take on Gligar and other Grass and Flying types hard, but Water and Dragon-type coverage is needed on almost all sets. *Kingdra can use a mixed set of Outrage / Draco Meteor / Waterfall / Hydro Pump however Kingdra has mediocre offenses unboosted, so it's not recommended. *A Choice Band set of Outrage / Waterfall / Return / Iron Head can be used however Flygon is a better Choice Band user thanks to the higher speed and Kingdra has a better boosting move in Dragon Dance anyways. *A Support Set of Yawn / Clear Smog / Scald / Dragon Pulse can be used with Kingdra's good bulk, however it has no reliable recovery and can only use Rest. ==Checks and Counters== *Choice Scarf Flygon can outspeed Kingdra at +1 and Outrage hard. *Empoleon and Ferroseed can wall almost all of Kingdra's attacks and set-up either Spikes or Substitute on it. *Toxic Spikes and hazards in general definitely don't help Kingdra's that like to switch often, however a Rapid Spinner should be able to keep them off almost always if used correctly. *Qwilfish and other intimidaters can lower Kingdra's attack and proceed to do as they wish. *Burn and Paralysis without Substitute and Rest can harm Kingdra easy, however Kingdra will normally sweep the opponent quicker anyways, so it's not too much of a problem, but it should still be mentioned either way. *Bulky Water-types and Cofagrigus can stall Kingdra all day as long as it doesn't have a +4 thanks to Recover, Pain Split and Haze (on Milotic) can eliminate Kingdra's boosts. *Amoonguss can also stall with Syntheis and reset stat-boosts if it can without a Substitute, however Kingdra does outspeed. *Thanks to Prankster, Sableye can stop Dragon Dance for being used for a while with Taunt, plus it gets priority in Will-O-Wisp unless behind Kingdra is always behind a Substitute already (yet Taunt may have had already prevented this from happening).
