Discuss the possibility of Metagrossite being banned from the ORAS UU tier.

Use this thread to discuss Mega Metagross (MegaGross)'s effect in the metagame. Talk about the different sets it can use, its best partners/team support and potential checks & counters. State your opinion on whether you think Metagrossite should be banned or if it should stay in the ORAS UU tier.

All opinions are welcome to be presented, and arguments may be shared between players, as long as you back it up with knowledge and experience and refrain from making your entire points based on responses to others. Theorymonning is not a valid argument and anyone who bases their opinion in it risks being infracted. If you are relatively new to this kind of environment, i suggest you read these guidelines.

Do not forget that, if a consensus can't be found after this discussions reaches its end, a vote will be held.

Metagross is another one of the many Pokemon that got a new mega in ORAS. Mega Metagross (Megagross), receives buffs in all of its stats except HP, most notably, boosts in Attack, Defense, and Speed hitting base 145, 150, and 110 respectively. In addition, Megagross has the ability Tough Claws, which gives an additional boost to moves such as Meteor Mash, Zen Headbutt, Grass Knot, Bullet Punch, Ice Punch, etc.

A typical Megagross set would look something like this:

Metagross @ Metagrossite Lv. 100 -- Clear Body

    Nature: Jolly - EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

    -Meteor Mash

    -Zen Headbutt

    -Grass Knot/Bullet Punch/Hone Claws

Arcanine: Intimidate+defensive investment can work nicely. Morning Sun gives it reliable recovery, and it can threaten Megagross with WoW, Flare Blitz, etc.

Mega Aggron: Only if it has already Mega Evolved. It can 3HKO with EQ, while it is 4HKO’d or 5HKO’d by MegaGross’s EQ. Has no reliable recovery. Also takes up a Mega slot.

Swampert: Only if Megagross lacks Grass Knot.
Porygon2: Works well if Megagross lacks Hone Claws or fails to get Attack boosts from MM.
Suicune, Vaporeon, Milotic, Alomomola: same condition as Porygon2, but can threaten to burn
Entei: Banded can survive an EQ and OHKO with Sacred Fire or Flare Blitz.
Rotom-H: Can survive Zen Headbutt (if no Stealth Rocks), and KO with Overheat
Victini: Can survive an EQ (if no Stealth Rocks), and KO with V-Create.

There are also scarf users (such as Chandelure) that can revenge kill, but only if Megagross has nothing to switch to or stays in for some reason.

With having only one ideal counter, (Mega Aggron isn’t ideal because it takes up a mega slot), and having only a few checks, most of which can be played around or easily worn down throughout the battle, it is my opinion that Mega Metagross is too strong for ORAS UU and should be banned.

Mega Metagross has Very Good Bulk with Good Defensive Typing Along with above average speed and very good Physical Attack with a solid Physical Move pool of most of which are further boosted by it's Ability, and enough Special Attack to make decent use of some Special Attacks, allowing it to take even reasonably power attacks even from Offensive Pokemon Easily while setting up or outright OHKO ing the opposing Pokemon, or outright sweeping with Just Stealth Rock Support once it's checks are weakened. Not to mention Pre-Mega Ability that makes it so that switching in a Pokemon With the Ability Intimidate on the Turn it Mega Evolves does not drop it's Attack, meaning that some of it's Intimidate Based Checks has to switch in on a Turn After it Mega Evolves, as otherwise they are in risk of being ko'd by the appropriate coverage move after switching in.

    252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Earthquake vs. 252 HP/252+ Def Leftovers Intimidate Arcanine: 198 - 234 (51.6 - 60.9%) -- 93.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers

It's coverage is such that even with only a few reasonably standard Sets, it has very few switches, most of which can be beaten by coverage and few Pokemon can OHKO A Healthy Mega Metagross, meaning that while it may not outright sweep on it's own, it will make a very large dent in the opposing team in almost every case.

Due to these reasons I believe Metagrossite Should Be Banned From ORAS UU.

While Metagross may currently be incredibly strong in the current metagame, I do not believe any action is needed at this time. Metagross will be moving to OU by usage in 9 days, sitting at #14 usage in November (Metagross 11.2363 9044) and #15 usage in December (Metagross 10.577 8694). The issue of banning it should come if he ever drops in the future.

November's usage stats are disregarded and tiers won't update until January/February, so this discussion makes the tier better for a month!

    ok more ded

meta metagross has excellent attack and speed with excellent bulk overall along with an ability in tough claw which boosts most attacks metagross uses, namely meteor mash, zen headbutt, bullet punch, grass knot. metagross also has useful boosting moves in hone claws and agility which allows it to handle some of its checks. metagross overall is very tough to check/counter; arcanine can burn it and heal off damage metagross does well, mega aggron can take hits well, being 3hko at worst by +1 earthquake while 2hkoing in return. bronzong is a decent counter as well as it resists all its attacks and has access to earthquake. suicune is a shaky check as it needs to get a scald burn to beat metagross, forretress can take hits well too but needs earthquake if it wants to do any significant damage. swampert isnt that great of a check considering grass knot can ohko swampert, or zen headbutt can 3hko while swampert cant 2hko in return (assuming max defense swampert). a problem with most of these pokemon is they dont have reliable recovery

so ya metagronite is being banned from ORAS UU
