Discuss the possibility of Staraptor being banned from the ORAS UU tier.

Use this thread to discuss Staraptor' impact on the metagame. Talk about the different sets it is capable of using, and potential checks/counters. State your opinion on wether Staraptor should be banned (or not) from the metagame. Having no firm stance on the matter is fine too.

All opinions are valid and discussion among players is not only allowed but encouraged, provided your opinion has solid reasoning and displays having playing with or against Staraptor in the tier. Do not simply state "it's broken" or "it's not broken".

Users that are unsure about suspect posting are encouraged to check this guide out.

So basically Staraptor is a really powerful threat to the tier that I believe should be banned due to how it restricts offense and bulky balance alike to find a check to it. The thing that sets Staraptor apart from other Flying-types such as Crobat and Mega Aerodactyl is that possesses a powerful move in Close Combat that lets it beat Rock and Steel type that would otherwise wall it (excluding Doublade obviously). This is truly detrimental as most Rock and Steel types do not have reliable recovery and can often be worn down quite easily, which Staraptor capitalizes on this weakness. Here are some calcs:

    [IMG] 252+ Atk Choice Band Staraptor Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 16+ Def Filter Mega Aggron: 132-156 (38.3 - 45.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
    [IMG] 252 Atk Choice Band Staraptor Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Empoleon: 412-486 (110.7 - 130.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
[IMG] 252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Staraptor Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Hippowdon: 232-274 (55.2 - 65.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
[IMG] 252 Atk Choice Band Staraptor Close Combat vs. 212 HP / 252 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 183-216 (43.1 - 50.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
[IMG] 252 Atk Choice Band Staraptor Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Mega Steelix: 158-186 (44.6 - 52.5%) -- 47.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Scarf destroys offense while Band destoys balance, its simple as that. So yeah ban Staraptor.

    Great banter boys

This is a rather straightforward suspect: Staraptor's stab move have absurb power and are capable of smashing evrything that doesn't resist them. Close Combat is basically just icing on the cake, allowing you to deal slightly better with a handful of mons, but in reality, raptor's really just clicking Brave Bird until everything is dead. Staraptor is now banned from UU.
