Discuss the possibility of Mega Audino being banned from the ORAS NU tier.

Use this thread to discuss Mega Audino's effect on the metagame; talk about the different sets it can use, good partners and potential checks/counters. State your opinion on whether you think it should be banned, but make sure your posts are backed up by experience and knowledge. Anyone who makes post based on theorymon risks being infracted.

If you're unsure about posting check out this guide and post anyway.

Gonna keep this short, while mega Audino may look appealing with its 103/126/126 bulk, its way less scary to face in practice than on paper, its typing doesnt provide it any rly useful resistances except like Ghost(dies to haunter anyway) and being knock off sponge, lack of lefties is pretty much huge after losing regenerator and its really easy to pressure, considering its a setup bait to half of NU setup sweepers(and theres plenty), not to mention that everytime it comes in , Garbodor gets up free hazards. Audino is one of the most passive NU pokemon and plenty things can take advantage of it, I can only see it fitting on more of stall-ish archetypes (which arent necesarily terrible, but arent great in Nu either), it passes biggest wishes in tier and does pretty decent job on those builds, but outside of that its a huge momentum sack. Audino can also run offensive set consisting of CM+3atks or healing wish+3 atks, and while those are pretty good options and good vs balanced builds, its really easy to wear down and needs a turn of setup in order to be threatening since base 80 spat is subar at best without boosting item. While every team should have a way to beat audino after 1 cm, those pokemon are rly common in Nu and every competitive team usualy has 1 without neccesarily trying to prepare for audino itself, so mostly its ppls fault to run bad passive teams that dont have a way to break bulkier builds. Its a decent mon for what it does, but not ban worthy or broken, voting No Ban.

Should have posted earlier but got caught up with the Gen 7 hype, but better late than never I guess.

My biggest issue with Mega Audino is it's ability to outlast almost all of it's checks. Garbodor has been mentioned a lot as it's go to check, and sure why not, it's a very useful NU mon with the ability to check most fairy/fighting types, stack up dual hazards and put a dent with STAB Gunk Shot. But how much does that do to Mega Audino? Standard Garbodor does 38-45%, not to mention it has a 80% accuracy and 8 PP, so CroAudino pretty easily outlasts it, and even sets up on it with Restalk/CM. Offensive Garbodor is a good check as it handily 2HKOs, but that's not the optimal set and garbodor loses a lot of it's utility. Taunt/Pjab Skuntank is another example of a decent check, but

    232+ Atk Skuntank Poison Jab vs. 252 HP / 208+ Def Audino-Mega: 144-170 (35.1 - 41.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

That's a 3HKO, whereas Dazzling Gleam does ~30% in return. So if you don't have Taunt you lose 1v1. However in most cases Skuntank will or should have Taunt and so it comes out on top, but this just shows how hard it is to take out Mega Audino. Other being an annoying fat shit it can also run Wish/Heal Bell for team support, or a CM+3 attacks offensive set which I'd say is underrated but threatening nonetheless (checks like Vileplume get OHKOed by +1 Fire Blast, etc.)

But it can't be denied in most cases Mega Audino is a very passive mon and a huge momentum-sapper for the team; and there are mons which can take advantage of it's defensive sets as they lack immediate power. NU steels like Magneton, Registeel usually come out on top 1v1 vs Mega Audino, and CM Psyshock Mesprit/Musharna, NP Jynx, SD Rhydon, SD/Roost Scyther all set up on it with relative ease and sweep, even though it's not possible if Mega Audino already got a couple of boosts already.

Overall I think Mega Audino is a controversial mon in NU, and while it might be passive it does have a way around /almost/ all of it's checks/counters, and it doesn't really have to beat the whole tier on its own to be considered unhealthy for NU, it just has to do it's job well and it just does that perfectly well. Is Mega Audino unstoppable in NU? Absolutely not; there are ways to beat it as I just mentioned above. But it is unhealthy for NU? Possibly, it's a polarizing mon and does require a couple of checks in every team to beat it reliably, although I would add it's most common checks are some of the better used mons in NU.

I'm on the fence regarding Mega Audino, leaning ban.

The Tier Leaders have agreed to ban Audinite from NU.

Mega Audino's ability to outlast nearly every check in the tier due to it's amazing bulk, access to regen before megaing, and Rest or Wish. Whilst supportive sets are fine and good, and aren't anything to really be feared, it's the Offensive CM and CroDino sets that make Audino an incredible force in NU. Not only do these sets have few-to-no counters, many of them are things that Audino has no trouble outlasting thanks to the god-tier bulk for the tier. Outside of absurdly specific checks (Worry Seed Vileplume) there are few things that can be guaranteed to prevent an Audino from making a late-game sweep. This is compounded by the fact that almost all of Audino's checks have to carry double duty as checks to other important threats in NU and are easily weakened so that Audino can smash through them.
