Hello, and welcome to the March edition of PO (Pokémon Online) News! The Generation 7 tiers are continuing to develop, SM UU has been added to the server, and other tiers are conducting suspect discussions! This edition of PO News covers this tier news as well as tournament news, server news, and more.

    Tier News

    Additional Mega Stones Released

Mewtwonite X, Mewtwonite Y, Mawilite, and Beedrilite are now available in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, which means that they are now legal to use on PO as well! Whether or not you've played with Mewtwo's Mega Evolutions in XY or ORAS, be sure to try them out to see how they are in the SM Ubers metagame! Mega Mawile and Mega Beedrill are currently in SM OU and SM UU, respectively.

    SM Ubers SleepTrap Ban
The combination of trapping abilities and sleep moves on the same Pokémon has been banned from SM Ubers. Currently, this ban only prevents Mega Gengar from running Hypnosis. The reason for the ban is that the combination of sleep + Shadow Tag essentially bypasses the Sleep Clause, which prevents more than one Pokémon at a time from being put to sleep by the opponent. Since the trapped Pokémon cannot switch out after it is put to sleep, the SleepTrap user has the potential to take out the opposing Pokémon one by one as if the Sleep Clause didn't exist. Sleep moves + trapping moves are not covered under this ban because that strategy can be dealt with more easiliy due to requiring an extra turn to set up.

Cutiefly and Misdreavus Banned from SM LC
Cutiefly was the only Pokémon in SM LC to have Quiver Dance, and it could use the move effectively. Cutiefly has nice STABs in the forms of Moonblast and Bug Buzz. Cutiefly can reach 19 Speed. Its Fairy typing grants it resistances to Fighting- and Dark-type priority, which makes it harder to revenge kill. In addition, Cutiefly has access to Baton Pass, which can allow it to pass its Quiver Dance boost to teammates. Cutiefly was suspected and deemed too much for SM LC.

The combination of Misdreavus's Ghost typing and Levitate gives it three immunities, and it is only weak against Ghost and Dark. It has an extremely versatile movepool that consists of options such as Shadow Ball, Dazzling Gleam, Thunderbolt, Nasty Plot, Destiny Bond, Taunt, and Trick. Eviolite, Berry Juice, Choice Scarf, Choice Specs, and Life Orb are all viable hold items. Misdreavus has excellent base stats for a LC Pokémon. Misdreavus hits 19 Speed, which can make it difficult to revenge kill without relying on Choice Scarf users or risking Speed ties, and its base 60 / 60 / 85 bulk could make it tough to bring down as well. Misdreavus was banned because it proved to be too strong for SM LC.

    Meditite Suspect in SM LC
Meditite is a powerful wallbreaker in SM LC thanks to its Pure Power ability, which effectively allows to to reach an Attack stat of 28. Meditite also has an excellent movepool that consists of STAB moves like High Jump Kick, Drain Punch, and Zen Headbutt. Meditite also has access to Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, and Fire Punch as coverage options. Meditite's Speed stat is somewhat mediocre at best, but it also has access to priority moves like Fake Out and Bullet Punch to threaten faster foes.
    Tapu Lele Suspect in Monotype

Tapu Lele is the first Monotype suspect of Generation 7. Currently, the discussion is leaning strongly toward banning Tapu Lele. Tapu Lele's Psychic Surge ability generates Psychic Terrain that boosts the power of Psychic-type moves and blocks priority. Because of the Psychic Terrain, Tapu Lele can be very difficult to switch into for teams that lack a bulky Steel-type. Psychic and Fairy teams also appreciate the support offered by Psychic Terrain, which protects frail sweepers like Mega Alakazam from priority while also boosting the power of Psychic moves. Tapu Lele also has the capacity to run Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, and Z-Move sets, which can make predicting it more challenging.
    SM UU Officially Begins

SM UU is now on the server, and this is the initial banlist:

Celesteela, Chansey, Charizard, Dugtrio, Excadrill, Ferrothorn, Garchomp, Gengar, Greninja, Gyarados, Heatran, Kartana, Landorus-Therian, Magearna, Magnezone, Mamoswine, Mandibuzz, Alolan Marowak, Metagross, Mimikyu, Nihilego, Pheromosa, Pinsir, Sableye, Scizor, Skarmory, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Toxapex, Tyranitar, Venusaur, Volcarona, Xurkitree, Zapdos, Zygarde, and everthing banned from SM OU.

In addition, Manaphy, Kyurem-B, Salamence, Dragonite, Hoopa-Unbound, and Mawilite have been quickbanned. Alakazite is the first suspect of SM UU.

Pokémon that were prominent in ORAS OU that have dropped to SM UU include Azumarill, Breloom, Bisharp, Clefable, Diggersby, Gliscor, Keldeo, Latias, Latios, Rotom-Wash, Scolipede, Serperior, Mega Slowbro, Thundurus-I, Thundurus-T, Tornadus-T, Volcanion, and more. It is also worth noting that Buzzwole and Guzzlord are Ultra Beasts that dropped to SM UU, and all of the Alolan formes dropped to SM UU except for Alolan Marowak.
