We've heard you loud and clear: all the themes on safari suck and anyone could make better ones. Thus begins the Theme Creation Contest of 2021, where you can submit up to 2 themes per account! Even better, we will be cleaning out old themes to make room for any new approved ones, so you will be helping us to make certain themes go away.

    Submit Format
Special rules includes things like certain Pokémon having a higher chance to spawn, unique reward sets, special conditions (like similarity mode and resistance mode) as well as nerfs and buffs. Remember that you can buff based on moves learned.

If you wish to include an Alter for your theme, also include this:
Since the original tips for success are a bit dated, and we're asking for a higher standard, here are some new guidelines:

    Tips For Success
    • Justify your theme clearly, and choose strong flavoring. Themes based around specific locations score really well here.
    • Keep your theme from being too wide in scope, to the point where there is no cohesion, and too narrow in scope, to the point where all the Pokémon are the same type. Find a balance.
    • Interesting and unique, and even new gameplay mechanics will be favored. If you have an idea for a mechanic within a theme but are not sure if it's possible to code, it probably is, and if we like your idea enough it will be coded.
    • Keep the balance of rare forms and legendary Pokémon wise. Flooding your theme with them will look desperate, not including enough may make your theme boring. Including all legends necessary to your flavor is a good place to start. If you can find ways to incorporate legends which do not spawn in many other themes, there may be bonus points.
We will be removing up to 5 or 6 of the least popular themes on the server, at a rate of 1 removed for each approved theme through this competition. If you want some of the less exciting themes to go away, this may be your chance to make it happen.

The next reward for submitting a theme that is accepted is an enduring legacy in a theme that survives on the server until the next TCC forever.

But if that's not enough, we will hand out the same prizes as last time. 3 Mega Stones, 5 Cherry Delights, 6 Eggs and 8 Prize Packs will be given to each player who submits a theme that is accepted, and you can receive the prize twice if both themes are accepted.

Collaboration is fine, as long as you agree beforehand how you want to split prizes. Although it should go without saying, do not pay other players to create a theme for you to submit.

You can only be an author on up to 2 themes submitted to this contest, and further themes submitted with your name as an author will be rejected.

Submissions that are not formatted correctly will be rejected.

PM the theme in the correct format to moderators of this subforum. Include your safari username in your PM.

Should your theme be approved via this contest, we reserve the right to make any edits to your theme before and after it is added to the server.

We will accept submissions through February 20th, 23:59 GMT (2 weeks). Submissions will be reviewed within a week following that.

Good luck with your theme creating.

    B-but all themes matter... #NeverForgetBrown #BringBackBrown2021

On a more serious note, I have some questions:
What are the mechanics of theme alters? Are they meant to add more Pokemon to the pool? Subtract them? (How drastically different should an alter be?) Do all alters (plus the base form) have an equal chance of appearing? Is it generally encouraged to have multiple alters, or only one?

If we submit two themes on our own as a "main" author, can we still be a collaborator for another person? Or does a collaborated project take up all the writers' two slots?

In the interest of "if you can find ways to incorporate legends which do not spawn in many other themes", may you provide a list of all the themes that each Legendary/Rarities can appear in, so we can help give you focus on the ones with less representation? Or will I have to just update my Safari Guide?

You can add and subtract Pokémon from the pool in alters. It should be a different list from your normal spawn list.

All alters have a 25% chance to appear, and there is max one per theme for now. If you can justify a theme needing two alters, it can fall under the category of "unique" and be worth considering.

If you are a collaborator you are considered an author.

Any special rules (Always): Weakness Mode, Premier Ball Ban.
Flavor Justification: Weakness Mode is extremely rare but really fun to shake things up, would be nice to get a theme about it, what better chance than this place where time and space are altered?

    Alter Name: Hall of Origin
    Alter Icon: Arceus
    Alter exclusive Pokémon (dex #s): 28, 45, 151, 200, 205, 207, 225, 242, 248, 302, 358, 373, 376, 380, 481, 415, 416, 425, 426, 429, 448, 451, 452, 462, 465, 466, 468, 477, 480, 481, 482, 493, 800

More Flavor Justification: There could be a gimmick of making Arceus spawn in a random type (including normal) but have it revert to normal if caught, to make it even harder to prepare for. The contest takes full inspiration from the "temple of light" of pokemon ranger, there is a great variety of types.
