Please check here now and then for updates.

    RULES

    Basics

All pokemon on the team must share a single type

This means that all pokemon must be the same single type.
    Example
    Jarooda erufuun and meganium YES
all are grass type so this would work

You can also use dual types

    Celebi Jarooda Venusaur YES
All of them share the grass type so it would work

    Celebi Venusaur Koffing NO
All pokemon must share a type. this does not mean that you can say "celebi and venusaur share grass, and koffing and venusaur share poison, and..." All pokemon on the team should be able to compare and have the same shared type.

That being said we can move on to banlists, special conditions and suspects. Please read on to see ubers, limitations, etc in the next 2 posts

    Suspects
Kokoloko said something about doing suspect tests for monotype. I agree whole heartedly, but we were in the middle of autoweather so it was backburnered, but here it is. I'm trying to make a fair monotype metagame, but as of now im the only one working on this project, as well as the community.

As for future suspects, If you suspect something, a rule, a team, a pokemon please come to this thread
    http://pokemon-online.eu/forums/showthread.php?4353-Understanding-Monotype-judgement
read it, and post here and post it there.

Mono-bug has always baffled me, it has so many good options but never seems able to put them together well.
Tip; make sure you can deal with flying and fire, two very common types which have an advantage on you.
If im online just ask me, ill play.

Mono-bug is one of the last gauntlets btw; you could try grass/dark/dragon instead.

Is the cheap version of Donphan allowed? I've swept 3 or 4 guys on him alone...
For those who don't know, this Donphan is lv. 1 and has Sturdy and a Shell Bell along with Endeavor and Ice Shard.
Strategy: Get hit, live with sturdy, Endeavor them down to 1 while Shell Bell heals all your health back, Ice Shard to kill them, rinse, repeat.

And how do you beat Rankurusu with Leftovers/Recover and Ghosts?
  19. flashbolt

I dont think the problem is ghosts as many teams dont have them (and you could pack some counters neways), or rankurusu as next to none have them. Which are reasons why lvl1 donphan works better in mono.
However, you still have the hail (there is no sand of ground teams), of any status/confusion/flinch/multihit move/entry hazards.
If all that fails you still may not be able to ice shard away the lefties recovery (starting pp stall).
So yes you are allowed donphan.

If we're talking about Dream World, Rankurusu's usage is 7.36% over 190,000 battles. In Wifi, Rank's usage over 140,000 battles is 10.74%. Not to mention that Gengar's usage in Wifi is 12.39%, Shandera's at 20.46% in Dream World, and Gengar's at 6.44% in Dream World. Doesn't hurt that Gliscor (9.99% in DW, 11.93% in Wifi) resists Sandstorm and Toxic Spikes don't affect it; not to mention Roost and Poison Heal for nearly safe recovery (16 roosts > 8 endeavors).

I totally knew that! *covers for self*

Okay, let me check those stats. :/

Edit: Looks like no Rankurusu at all and still a high number of Shanderas and Gengars. Though this is only over 2000 battles or so.

    I reallly lik ninetales.
I don't think the weather inducing pokemon shoud be banned.
They should just not be alowed with their weather inducing abilities.
(now i think about this should also be done with ninetales/vulpix in uu but...)

With the new Chandelure sticky, we were having some serious sticky spam up in here.

I unstuck this mono thread for now and linked to it from the 5th gen tier list which should be good enough.

No. The Pokemon can change its type mid-game, yes, but so can Castform and Kecleon. If the Pokemon is not of that typing at the start of the battle, it cannot be used.

This also means that Meloetta cannot be used in a Fighting mono team, but it can change into its Step Forme in a Psychic mono team.

Say I was building an Electric team, and wanted to use Rotom-W and Rotom-F. Would that be allowed, or would that be breaking the species clause?

Its kind of a shame, it would make electric alot more viable.

    Electric has things like Thundurus(lead/anti-lead), Galvantula(special sweeper), Eelektross(mixed sweeper/tank), Zapdos(sweeper/utility/passer), Magnezone(Bulky/revenge killer), Zebstrika(Spore/Grass Counter), Electivire(Coverage Sweeper), Luxray(coverage sweeper/revenge killer), Raikou(Scout/Special Sweeper/Bulky Sweeper), Jolteon(Special Sweeper/Passer) and Lanturn(Bulky). Coupled with a Rotom forme(Special Sweeper/Wall/Utility/resistance variety), this gives you not only great diversity, but also more than a little viability.

    Alot of good points.
But i dont think that is particularly good diversity when compared with other types.
Let me quote afew stats (from April figures)
    i) 3.65% of pokemon used had an electric type (only poison and dragon lower)
ii) No of different Electrics used 28 (fire, dark are roughly same, ghost, ice, dragon lower). To put this in context, Water 63, Normal 59, Flying 58.

Tbh i dont think statistic i) is particularly useful. Sure it shows electric is in a similar situation to two other types which we know have some poor diversity, but it is heavily influenced by the fact that less electrics have good second types so dont see much usage on other teams. (though highest electric is Zapdos at 24 iirc).
Statistic ii) i think is a good measure of diversity (at least viable diversity). Also remember about this statistic, it counts each of the rotoms seperately. If you take them out (6 rotoms were used in April so take 5 away from 28) that leaves electric equal with ice, higher only than ghost and dragon on diversity. Thats pretty awful as things go.

I think the problem is that while you do mention lots of good mons, alot of them overlap. Galvantula, Jolteon, Raikou, Manetric, sweeping Zapdos, sweeping Thundurus are all good mons and may be individually viable but you sure wouldnt want more than 2 of them on your team or you are way walled on the special side. (for zapdos and thundurus this isnt too much of a problem, they can fill other roles).
Because of the massive special bias of electric (on top of previously mentionned; magnezone, lanturn (pretty much outclassed by rotom-w if you are using it) and rotom are also only ever gonna be hitting special), you have to look at inferior alternatives. I actually disagree with you on the viability of Luxray. Out of Zeb, Vire and Eelektross. Eelek is the only one which i would have any faith on switching it.
Electric has other problems like everything except eelec and some rotom are weak to ground/rock, one of the more common attacking combos. Your two best mons (zapdos, thundurus) are weak to SR, meaning choosing galvantula or rotom-H is risky.

    Recap:
-I think the stats show that there isnt good diversity
-even though fighting, steel, bug are top 3 in April, electric performs poorly (zapdos, thundurus should preform well against them).
-viability is hurt by special bias (relying on subpar physical threats).
-All but 2 mons weak to ground/rock. (top threats share SR weakness)
-overlap leads to overstating selection of viable options

That's true, though I used lanturn as an alternative for rotom-w, in case someone wanted another Rotom.

Electric pokemon may be weak to ground, but not only is it their only weakness(baring dual types, of course), it can be sircumvented by using a balloon. Sure it's only viable as long as you're not hit by a non ground attacking move, but during a battle even one turn can prove crucial in... turning the tide to your favor. Rock, on the other hand, is a different matter.

Personally, Electric is my favorite monotype, with my team having Galvantula(Elec/Bug|Lead/Special Sweeper), Electivire(Elec|Physical Sweeper/Coverage), Rotom-W(Elec/Water|Wall/Utility coverage), Zebstrika(Elec|Physical Sweeper/Anti-Grass Specialist), Zapdos(Elec/Flying|Special Wall/Baton Passer), and Eelektross(Elec|Mixed Utility Tank).
A move that gets a lot overlooked in Electric pokemon is Charge, which, though only raises Special Defence by 1 stage, also doubles the next Electric attack. Rotom, Zebstrika, and especially Zapdos find this very useful.

WOOT! Charge Zapdos is a bomb in OU. Not running thundurus is brave.
I quite like electric too tbh. But thats because i realise its pretty poor, and i like it because of it. Its a British thing, always rooting for the underdog. (explains so much about the teams i make)
But i resort to using Stunfisk in my team (need rock resist). btw Stunfisk is awesome, MVP so often.

Are you implying than Stunfisk is anything less than a top class threat? He has been amazing, MVPed regularly and swept afew teams.

But because i know you wont believe me (=P) ill say this; electric is plenty weak to ground already (or at least my team is), that is a major deterrent for me choosing zone.

Also, i like being different :). It was a wise man that once said "Things are remembered for how kick ass they are, not for how much ass they kick".
